It will be on the south side of the port, east of Terminal J, and will be homeport to Disney Cruise Line’s larger vessels carrying over 3,500 passengers. The estimated cost of the renovations is $170 million and completion is scheduled for October 2022. This will be Carnival’s third and largest Miami cruise terminal and its proposed opening will mark Carnival’s 50th anniversary. All major points of interest in Miami are easy to reach by public transportation including South Beach, Little Havana, Dadeland, Key Biscayne and as far north as the Aventura Mall and Ft. A good alternative to Cruise Lines Transfers, Taxi, Uber or Lift is the service provided by independent shuttle companies that can easily be booked online. There are quite a few and IQCruising does NOT in any way endorse, sponsor or gets paid to advertise any of them.

How Many Miami Cruise Terminals are There?

If you are up to taking public transportation, it could save you some money. Tri-Rail, Metro Rail, and Brightline have services that will get you to Downtown Miami, but you will still need additional transportation for the last mile or so to the port. Once you arrive at the airport, you will have several transportation methods. Some of these options will depend on whether you fly in the day before or the day of your cruise. Terminal G primarily services MSC Cruises and Disney Cruise Line.

If you are staying in the Miami area in a hotel, then you may be able to save on your parking. Many hotels cater to cruisers with special daily parking rates or parking packages, which allow you to leave your car while you sail. The Port of Miami charges $22 per day ($25-$28 if sailing Royal Caribbean), while independent lots typically charge between $11-12 per day.

Cruise itineraries to and from Miami Florida

Many other Trolley Routes (also free) crisscross downtown, connecting to farther places like Coconut Grove (ideal to visit Vizcaya Gardens), the Design District, Wynwood, Little Havana and Coral Gables. The Downtown Bus Terminal, close to the Government Center, has routes to South Beach, Key Biscayne (good for the Seaquarium) and as far as the Aventura Mall. If you have a look at the map above, it is clear that the Port of Miami (on Dodge Island) is connected by a bridge to Downtown on the West mainland.

The Fort Lauderdale airport is only 30 miles (48 km) north of the Port of Miami. Many cruise lines offer tours of Miami including a transfer to the Airport and secured locking for your luggage. But if you want to explore Miami on your own there are booths offering all sorts of excursions, tours, and hop-on-hop-off buses. Have questions about riding the trolley and train between the Miami port and airport? The trolley has a stop right in front of Government Center, but that stop heads in the opposite direction of the cruise port. Instead, you’ll want to walk approximately three blocks to the stop headed toward the Port of Miami.

Parking Facilities at Port Miami

There are dozens of car services in the area that will pick you up in a private car or limo. In fact, many of the same companies that provide shared shuttle service also have private car service too. While rates are pretty low, if you are traveling in a group of three or more, we’d suggest a taxi or Uber/Lyft as they will be comparable in cost but give you a private ride. If your cruise line has a broad boarding window (something like noon to 4 p.m.), then you can arrive at any point during that window. We suggest waiting until the second half of the boarding window to actually arrive. There is usually a big rush of people who want to board as early as possible, leading to longer lines.

The rate is $28 per day for cruises of five nights or less. Parking at the port is convenient, but it’s also expensive. There is space for oversized vehicles like RVs, but the rate is an additional $22 each day. Cash and all major credit cards are accepted, but debit cards are not. Terminal ACurrently one of the crown jewels of the Port of Miami, Terminal A is exclusive to Royal Caribbean and is a monument to the cruise line.

It’s where you might find some crew from the cruise ships blowing off steam in between cruises. As a perk, many hotels near the Port of Miami offer cruise parking deals. You stay one night and parking while you are on your cruise is included in your room package or is a small additional daily fee. As a bonus, many of the hotels also offer shuttles to the cruise port. Given the high cost of parking at the cruise port, hotel parking can save you considerably. You can see our list of Miami hotels with cruise parking here.

There are also exhibits on the solar system, physics of flight, biology, light and lasers and more. If you're more interested in bird-watching than people-watching, head south to Key Biscayne Beach or Bill Baggs Cape Florida State Park (1200 Brandon Boulevard, Key Biscayne). At the tip of Key Biscayne, it has 400 acres of nature hemmed in by a 1-mile beach. PortMiami is in close proximity to many desirable neighborhoods so there's no lack of opportunity to find both destination dining and good local eats.
